Visiting hours:
Most of the Czech monuments are open for
visitors from 09:00 or 10:00 till 17:00 or 18:00 Hrs. A number of museums,
galleries and castles are closed on Mondays, so check ahead of time. The
National Museum is closed on the first Tuesday of the month. The State Jewish
Museum is closed on Friday afternoons and on Saturdays.
Shops in Prague are generally open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 or
later and from 09:00 to 12:00 on Saturday. Banks are open from 08:00 to 17:00 or
18:00, Monday to Friday. Food stores are open from 07:00 and many of them stay
open on Saturdays till evening. There are also some hypermarkets that are open

The most convenient way is to buy a phone card. Cards of various denominations (50, 100, 200 units can be bought at post offices, newsagents, hotels, kiosks, and some other shops.
Post offices
Post offices (posta) are generally open between 08.00 and 18.00. The main post office is at Jindrisska 14 in Prague 1, just a few meters from Wenceslas Square is open 24 hours a day although it operates a reduced service during the night.
Postage rates: 7.50 CZK - Letters nationally (up to 20 g) 10 CZK - Letters to Europe (airmail) 12 CZK - Letters to outside of Europe Apart from post offices, postage stamps (znamky) can also be bought at newsagents (noviny, tabak, trafika).
Tax free shopping
In the Czech Republic, there are many
opportunities to benefit from Tax Free Shopping, more than 6,000 retail outlets
offer the service. The affiliated stores display our well-known “Tax Free Shop”
logo.
Easy steps to claiming your refund
As a foreign visitor, you are entitled to
claim back the tax you pay on your purchases, if you take them home. The VAT
rate in our country is 19% (15.7% of the purchase price). Your total purchases
(VAT included) must exceed 2,000 CZK in one shop in one day. Your Global Refund
Cheque must be validated by Customs at departure within 3 months plus the month
of purchase and will be refunded within 5 months from purchase date. After
deduction of the handling expenses, you will receive a refund of up to 14% of
the purchase price.
1. In the Store
Shop where you see the Global Refund Tax Free Shopping sign and simply ask for
your refund Cheque.
2. Through Customs
When leaving the EU, show your purchases, original receipts and passport to the
EU customs officials and have your Global Refund Cheques stamped.
3. Collect your refund
You have several choices: Cash at a nearby Global Refund Office, Cash refund
when you return home, Direct crediting of a chosen credit card or bank account
(please state your credit card/bank details), Bank cheque sent to a chosen
address
